arXiv Palette and Style Sheet for Mathematica Users

arXiv.org is an electronic archive and distribution server for research papers. Areas on arXiv cover physics and related disciplines, mathematics, nonlinear sciences, computational linguistics, and neuroscience, with submissions numbering in the tens of thousands and downloads in the tens of millions. File submission guidelines and information are available on arXiv.org.

arXiv.org, the e-print server hosted by Los Alamos National Laboratory, accepts PDF files created from notebooks, along with notebooks as supplemental materials. The arXiv palette and style sheet package provides a useful set of templates and tools for creating publication-ready articles with Mathematica. PDF files can be generated from notebooks using our PDF conversion portal based on webMathematica.

The files on this page require Mathematica 4.2 or later and will not function properly with previous versions.

Note on downloading: Simply clicking the link may open a file as text in your browser window, which is okay as long as the cache limit allows the entire file to be displayed. Save the displayed text (or binary data) to a file on your machine. You can configure Mathematica or any other Wolfram Research product as your helper application for .nb files.

Archive for Operating System

arXiv.exe (Windows)
arXiv.tar.gz (Linux)
arXivOSX.tar.gz (Macintosh OS X)
arXiv.sea.hqx (Macintosh OS)

Select the appropriate archive for your operating system, and place the resulting output file (a package directory) in your Mathematica layout within [TopLevel]/AddOns/Applications/. Restart Mathematica, and the style sheet will appear in the style sheets menu and the palette will be listed in the palettes menu. This directory must be installed to use arXivPal.nb.

Palette

The arXiv palette creates documents using the required arXiv style sheet. Click the "New Document" button to start a new notebook with the style sheet already selected. All of the other buttons create cells pertaining to the relevant document components. This file is automatically installed with the arXiv directory above.

Sample Notebook

arXivSampleDoc.nb is a notebook that demonstrates the general appearance of the arXiv styles. It does not show every possible style or element. However, the palette creates on-the-fly templates that help to sort out all the possibilities. The sample document article is presented courtesy of Michael Trott.
