Background

János D. Pintér, Ph.D., D.Sc., is a researcher and practitioner with three decades of experience in the areas of advanced optimization algorithms, software development, and applications. In addition to MathOptimizer and MathOptimizer Professional, his professional software products include LGO for global (as well as for dense local) optimization, in various platform-specific implementations.

Dr. Pintér has written and edited several books on stochastic and global optimization and has authored some 160 book chapters, articles, and technical reports. He wrote the "Global Optimization" entry--and some others--for MathWorld, and the chapter titled "Global Optimization: Software, Test Problems, and Applications" for Volume 2 of the Handbook of Global Optimization. He received the 2000 INFORMS Computing Society Prize for the book Global Optimization in Action, and has received other professional awards and research grants in Canada, Hungary, the Netherlands, and the United States.

He served as Vice Chair for Global Optimization of the INFORMS Optimization Society between 2002-2004. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Global Optimization, the Journal of Applied Mathematics and Decision Sciences, Algorithmic Operations Research, and of the International Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control. He is an INFORMS and CORS Speaker, and has presented lectures and courses in some 30 countries.
