| Q: |
How does Premier Service work with network licenses? |
| |
Premier Service can be purchased for a network license in the
same way as for a machine-locked license. You receive the same benefits of
free upgrades, home usage, etc., for up to the same number of people as
processes you purchased. Note, however, that if you choose to purchase
Premier Service, it must be purchased for all processes and servers
in a given network installation.

| Q: |
What technology is MathLM using? |
| |
MathLM uses Wolfram Research, Inc. proprietary licensing technology.
All communications run via standard TCP/IP.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
Is it hard to install MathLM? |
| |
No, in some ways it is easier than installing regular Mathematica or other Wolfram Research programs. The basic reason is that in order for individual users to install one of the main programs, they usually need a password that, in some cases, is tied to their machine. In the
case of MathLM-based licensing, you simply have to put the hostname of
the machine acting as a license server.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
Is it easy to add additional processes? |
| |
Yes, you can always add additional processes as you need them by obtaining
additional passwords from Wolfram Research or your reseller and adding them
to the password file.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
Can I upgrade from individual licenses to a network license? |
| |
Yes, you can. Please contact Wolfram Research, Inc. if you live in the U.S. or
Canada. Otherwise, contact your local reseller or Wolfram Research
office.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
How can I get more information about MathLM and network
setups? |
| |
The Mathematica
Installation Instructions in the System Administrator's Guide
provide extensive coverage of MathLM and network setups. In addition, there is a collection
of solutions to issues concerning nonstandard setups available on our support site.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
Wolfram Research offered network license solutions in the past.
How is licensing through MathLM different? |
| |
MathLM is both more flexible and more robust than earlier network
license solutions. Also, the license server can now reside on both Unix
and Windows NT computers.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
If my institution has a Wolfram Research volume-purchase program,
can a network license be included under that program? |
| |
Yes, network licenses may be purchased under any
of our purchase programs. Contact your sales representative to receive
information on a program that will best meet your needs.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
What happens if all processes are in use and someone tries to
start an additional one? |
| |
MathLM will send a message that the process limit has been reached and
will offer to let the user retry, go to another server, or enter a
single-machine password.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
What if the network connection between client and server gets
interrupted? |
| |
MathLM will recover the licenses and make the network
available to other processes within eight minutes.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
What happens if the license manager crashes? What is the grace
period for running processes? |
| |
The license manager allows an eight-minute grace period. You can also specify
backup license managers.
|
| |
|
| Q: |
Can I still save my work if the connection to the license server
is severed? |
| |
Yes, networked Wolfram Research programs will prompt you to save your work
automatically if they cannot connect to the license manager during a session.
