How Mathematica CalcCenter Compares

Comparing different systems isn't as easy as looking at ticks on a checklist of features. You can take a look at the comparison chart to see that Mathematica CalcCenter scores well. But that's far from the whole story. Where Mathematica CalcCenter really excels is in ease of use, accuracy, and thoughtfulness of design--qualities that are as hard to quantify as they are essential to helping you get your work done quickly, efficiently, and reliably both now and in the future.
What are the other qualities that you should be looking for in your calculation product?

Accuracy of results
Does your system do the calculations correctly? Some systems do get them wrong.
Software quality assurance
Every system will have some bugs, but there's a huge difference between something that's well tested and something that's not.
Compatibility with other users
Are there enough people who have adopted the standard that's used in your product?
Backing of an established company
Are you confident that the producer of your product will support it in the years to come, or will you be forced to change systems and be subjected to all of the associated costs?
Ability to upgrade
If you need a more comprehensive system, can you upgrade without losing the work you've done and the experience you've acquired?

Trust the Technology
Since 1988, Wolfram Research has been building software for the technical professional using state-of-the-art algorithms and advanced user interfaces. Mathematica CalcCenter draws on this technology, tested by several million enthusiastic users, in an affordable, easy-to-use system. Be assured that you will get reliable, accurate results.

Committed to Quality and Longevity
When you buy software, you're investing your time. That's why it's so crucial that you choose a standard that's going to remain compatible with all versions in the years to come. Wolfram Research is keenly aware of this. The design of new features is meticulously thought through at every stage, so each feature works well not just in that version but for all future enhanced versions as well.

Competitor Information

Excel
The spreadsheet paradigm that Excel is based around was intended for accountants, but is not well suited to science and engineering and it is missing many important functions for these professionals. It hides the methods and calculation steps, making them hard to review, and when you do access them they are presented in plain text instead of traditional technical notations, making them hard to read.

Mathcad
Mathcad was originally designed as a numeric-only system, but later added a few symbolic capabilities through an external library purchased from another company. As a result, symbolic capabilities are very limited and not fully integrated into every function. For most functionality you cannot proceed with a computation until you know, or guess, values for every input variable. With the fully integrated symbolic capabilities of Mathematica CalcCenter you can get results in terms of the unknown variables.

Maple
Maple was originally designed as a computer algebra system but recently added numerical libraries licensed from another company, which are not fully integrated into every function. This allows Mathematica CalcCenter to outperform it in many large numerical computations. The inconsistent design of Maple makes it much harder to learn and master than Mathematica CalcCenter.
