Special Training Opportunities

In conjunction with the International Mathematica User Conference 2008, we are offering attendees unique training opportunities at a substantial discount.

Wolfram Education Group is offering several of its most popular and newer courses. All are available either before or directly after the main program, so you don't have to miss any of the conference in order to attend the training classes.

M101: A First Course in Mathematica
Wednesday, October 22 (9am-5pm)
Instructor: Paul Wellin

This one-day class features selected topics from the popular two-day M101 course and provides an introduction to the basic features of Mathematica 6. Topics include graphics, functional/procedural/rule-based programming, mathematical functions, and importing and exporting files and data.

Course Prerequisites
No prior Mathematica experience is required for this course.

M225: Grid Computing with Mathematica
Wednesday, October 22 (9am-12 noon)
Instructor: Onkar Singh

An introduction to parallel and distributed Mathematica programming in gridMathematica. The underlying technology and philosophy of gridMathematica is discussed, as well as its core functions for developing parallel applications. Examples that walk you through the parallel development process are provided. The short course provides the necessary knowledge and understanding to explore the capabilities of gridMathematica, and is appropriate for users of gridMathematica, Mathematica Personal Grid Edition, and Parallel Computing Toolkit.

Course Prerequisites
Course attendees are expected to have basic familiarity with Mathematica approximately equivalent to that provided by "M101: A First Course in Mathematica," and experience with computer programming.

M235: Mathematica Development using Wolfram Workbench
Wednesday, October 22 (1-4:30pm)
Instructor: Xiaofeng Li

This short course covers the major concepts and features of the integrated development environment at the core of Wolfram Workbench. Features such as source code editing, debugging, profiling, and unit testing for advanced development of Mathematica code and projects are presented and explained.

Course Prerequisites
Course attendees are expected to have basic familiarity with Mathematica, especially package creation, approximately equivalent to that provided by "M101: A First Course in Mathematica."

M205A: Visualization and Graphics
Sunday, October 26 (9am-12 noon)
Instructor: Harry Calkins

An introduction to visualization and graphics in Mathematica. 2D and 3D plotting functions are introduced, including tools for working with mesh, transparency, lighting, and coloring surfaces. Dynamic interactivity with graphics is also covered in this short course.

Course Prerequisites
This course assumes a working knowledge of Mathematica syntax and the use of pure functions on the level of "M101: A First Course in Mathematica."

M255: webMathematica using Wolfram Workbench (new course)
Sunday, October 26 (9am-12 noon)
Instructor: Eric Wort

This short course gives on introduction to the core features of webMathematica along with the development tools provided by Wolfram Workbench. The course is designed primarily for anyone interested in developing webMathematica-powered sites that are built on Mathematica applications, for clients to access through a web browser.
